If I am not for myself, who will be? If I am only for myself, what am I? If not now, when? - Rabbi Hillel
I am:
I am:
After clerkship, I fought corporations. I worked on cases involving the largest corporations in the country.
Then I did amicus work in some of the most important cases before the Supreme Court, and scholarly research on disqualification from office for insurrection.
I currently work at the Arizona Solicitor General’s Office, Special Litigation, where I sue the Trump administration. I defend due process, the rule of law, the power of Congress to lay out the Executive Branch, and the Appointments Clause.
I also conduct government accountability investigations and litigate high-profile complex civil cases, mostly involving constitutional law. My other cases include defending the Baaj Nwaavjo I’tah Kukveni Grand Canyon National Monument and its environmental and cultural impact, and defending administrative regulations relating to health and safety.
Advocate. Fight. Win.
For years, I said “I do not teach students. I teach the adults they are becoming.” I spoke directly to the best version of each person’s self. And I showed them how to get there. That’s what our nation needs now: a call to the best nation it can be. It has a long way to go.
One student said “I will never misbehave in front of Mr. Katz. Other teachers might give me detention, but he will tell me long and boring stories.”
I taught math, history, and English. Math veered frequently from the value of x to other values. Across the curriculum, I taught my students to think, to feel, to write, and to care.
Inspire. Educate. Mature.
I saw people in the worst moments of their lives. I worked to make it better. I saved countless lives, over a long career. I mostly served as a volunteer, but also ran a paid department. I started out wanting to serve my community, but expanded and served in many parts of the field.
As a 9/11 responder, I saw my nation at its (then) lowest point, and watched it come back stronger. It can happen again. For the world’s sake, it must.
Revive. Renewal. Hope.
I was elected Planning Commissioner of Westbrook, Connecticut, after a short time on the Zoning Board of Appeals. Municipal government offers the opportunity to serve and to see your work make an immediate impact. I loved working with colleagues from other parties to put forth a shared vision. I want that feeling again.
I am a Registered Parliamentarian, an expert on the conduct of meetings and governance of organizations. This prepares me to represent YLD by making effective use of parliamentary procedure. I know how to get things done.
I serve organizations as a parliamentarian. I founded the Arch Metro St. Louis Chapter of the National Association of Parliamentarians, and serve as its Vice-President. In that role, I regularly teach parliamentary procedure.
There is more to parliamentary procedure than just winning. It is a way to conduct meetings that is fair and efficient, that values stability while recognizing that ideas evolve and change. Just what is needed for our country.
Fair. Efficient. Collegial.
