We’re at war. For our profession. For our nation. For the promise of freedom, safety, and prosperity guaranteed by the rule of law.

The ABA has been playing a vital role in the fight. I want to make sure that continues.

Let’s not mince words. We don’t have time. On his first day in office, Donald Trump pardoned more than a thousand of his insurrectionist supporters. It was a slap in the face to prosecutors, judges, and the rule of law itself. So much for “backing the blue.”

Then, he began a stochastic terrorism campaign, labeling every judge who sees the reality of his lawless actions as a “left wing lunatic” who is, he claims, destroying the country.

These are not coincidences. He is attempting to end the rule of law through violence. He is calling on his violent supporters to attack judges. And what stands between him and his goal is lawyers.

In the unforgettable words of A Man for All Seasons, beloved by Justice Scalia, Donald Trump has asked his supporters if no one will rid him of these troublesome defenders of the rule of law, due process, and the Constitution. We must make sure the answer is no.

That’s why I’m asking you to send a delegate committed to the fight. Who will stand with the work the ABA has already done and is already doing to fight off this monstrosity. Who knows that more is needed, and commits to standing without exception for the rule of law, the securitor of a free and prosperous society, for due process, and for the integrity of our profession.
